“A courtyard apartment where the color palette emphasizes the articulation between spaces"

The apartment redesigned by studio Silenzio Architetti is located in a nineteenth-century courtyard building located in the historic center of Pavia, close to the ancient city gate named Porta Palacense which in Longobard times was one of the entrances to the walled city. The interior spaces are reinterpreted as a sequence of softened volumes, distinguished by careful use of colour.
.
The colour, used with soft tones, becomes the protagonist, key element to emphasize or hide some spatial characters. A brick-coloured pitch, recalling the original pre-intervention tones, wraps around the distribution space, transforming it into a scenic backdrop. Visible from the entrance, this surface creates an intermediate layer, guiding the gaze along a telescope perspective.
.
The layout developed allows to make the best use of space thanks to the study of bespoke furniture solutions, which sometimes are camouflaged with the architectural envelope adopting the same shade of grey Ephesus taken from walls, other times furniture is revealed as sculptural objects, emphasized by clear colors, as for example the volume of the island in the center of the living area in black stained oak. A few elements and simple gestures break the traditional nineteenth-century plant thus giving character to the domestic environment. Text description by the architects.
